Mid-Century Modern Tissue Box Cover

This piece was created as a custom design for a repeat customer who loves all things Mid Century.  It was an experimental piece for us in many ways, and we are more than happy with how it turned out.  Because we knew that the finished product would be a painted piece, we decided to use simple pine for the construction.  We cut the five sides, developed a simple but elegant linear design to visually connect the pieces, and routed the line in with a V-bit.  After assembly, the piece required many coats of high gloss paint to achieve that look of plasticity associated with much Mid Century design.  We considered adding a color line in the grooves, but went with sleek white in the end, as the grooves themselves provided enough of a shadow effect.
